樹脂を使った手帳表紙デザインと製作の裏技

今年の上半期も終わりに差し掛かりましたね。
掲載が遅くなりましたが
今日はロールバーン手帳の表紙を制作したお話です。
今年も私の好きな物や思いを
詰め込んだデザインになりました。
大まかなデザインが決まったら
作りながら考えていきます。
デザインの意味なども
併せてご紹介しますね。
まずは一層目の背景の樹脂を流します。
が
いきなり失敗しました。
手帳よりも大きい型で作るので
型の端まで樹脂を流さなくてもよいのですが
カットするにしてもギリギリ足りない部分があったことと
色も青～群青のグラデーションになってしまいましたのでやりなおし！
デザイン案では上の方には数色使う予定でしたが
緑から深い青のグラデーションに変更しました。
一層目を固めている間に
ドライフルーツやドライフラワーに防水加工をします。
ここで、ふと
フルーツの裏には白い紙を貼った方が
はっきりとするのでは？と思ってやってみました。
樹脂の上に置いてみると、その差は歴然。
左がそのままのフルーツ
右は後ろに紙を貼ったものです。
紙を貼った物の方が
フルーツの色がはっきりとしますね。
一層目が固まったら、キウイと苺、
下の方に木をイメージした葉を置いて
写真を仮配置したその下に
お馬さんを描いていく～
お馬さんの後ろ足が短すぎて
なんだか残念なことに…
ビッグベン（エリザベスタワー）に隠れるので
結果オーライです。
フルーツはカッパドキアの気球をイメージしましたので
たこ糸に色をつけたものをフルーツの下に置き
カゴも描きました。花も付け足しましたよ。
２回目の樹脂を流していきます。
樹脂を流した後で、星座などのモチーフを入れて
ホログラムのお星さまを散らしました。
花の周りにラメをふって
花火が上がっているイメージに。
２層目の樹脂が固まった後に
お馬さんの顔と前足を描くことで
少しだけですが立体感がでます。
樹脂を重ねながら絵を描いていくのは
今ではメジャーな技法のひとつですが
初めて世の中に出したのは
金魚絵師 深堀隆介さんだと思います。
（何方が初めか、というのには諸説あるとは思うのですが・・・）
先達に感謝ですね。
ほんの数ミリの層でも立体的に見えて驚きました。
ビックベンにコロッセオの写真を重ね
お花を配置。
画像がないのですが、その上にグリーンを重ねて
３層目の樹脂を流し固めます。
型から外しました。
ここからロールバーンサイズに直していきますよ。
裏にロールバーンの表紙を貼り
カット線をけがく。
このラッコさんの表紙もお気に入りでした♡
糸鋸でカットカット
久しぶりに糸鋸を使ったのですが
糸鋸の楽しさを思い出しました。
ギザギザなのでやすって滑らかにして
カットしたところを磨いていきます。
数種類のやすりと、最終的に研磨剤を使って透明感を出します。

表はこんな感じです。
カッパドキア、ロンドン、イタリアの有名スポットは
私が行きたい・見たい場所。
人生には色んな障害や弊害があるなかでも
それらを超えてゆく
そして、行きたい所へ飛んで行く
という思いを込めて
障害を飛び超えようとするお馬さんを描きました。
2023年の表紙では左側のリングを隠しましたが
私の手帳は最終的に
ロールバーンノート２冊分を超える厚さになり
リングの余白がギリギリになってしまうため
今年のはそのままです。
作ってみて反省点がいくつかありました。
①背景の１層目が分厚すぎて
手描きの絵に1層しか樹脂を重ねられず
立体感がいまいちだったこと
②フルーツに一部、樹脂が染みてしまったことと
お花がシワシワっとしてしまったことも残念でした。
③隠れているお馬さんの脚がおかしかったこと
お顔やお耳の肉厚を表現しきれなかったことも反省点。
以上を踏まえて
来年の手帳カバーを作る際は
①最初に背景をシート状に薄く作っておく
②花にも白い紙等を貼り、
花やフルーツの側面にも防水加工を施すこと。
③絵画の練習を続けること
お馬さんの絵も、どうすれば良かったのだろう？と
絵画教室の先生に後日アドバイスを頂きました。
素晴らしい師匠に出逢えたことにも
たとえゆっくりでも絵を続けられる環境にも感謝です。
私物製作を通して、様々なことを学び
また色んなことを考えることができました。
The first half of this year is coming to an end within month.
I’m late in posting this, but
today I’m going to talk about the cover of my Rollbahn planner.
I packed with my favorite things and thoughts while designing it.
Once the rough design was decided,
I thought about it as I made it.
I will also explain the meaning behind the design later.
First, pour the resin for the background of the first layer.
But
I failed right away.
I used a mold that was larger than the planner,
so I didn’t need to pour the resin all the way to the edge of the mold,
but there were still some areas of the background that were a little short to cut it down to the size of the cover.
Moreover, the color ended up being a gradient from blue to ultramarine, so I had to start over!
My design proposal was to use multiple colors at the top,
but I changed it to a gradient from green to dark blue.
While the first layer was hardening, I waterproofed the dried fruit and dried flowers.
At this point, I thought that the finish would look better if I stuck white paper to the back of the fruit, so I tried it.
When I place them on top of the resin, the difference is clear.
On the left is the fruit as is.
On the right is fruit with paper stuck to the back.
The fruit with paper stuck to it has a clearer color.
Once the first layer has hardened, I put kiwi and strawberry,
placed leaves to represent trees at the bottom, and then drew a horse underneath the photo.
Unfortunately, the horse’s hind legs were too short,
but it got hidden by Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower), so it all turned out fine.
The fruit was inspired by balloons in Cappadocia,
so I placed colored kite string underneath the fruit and drew a basket.
I also added flowers.
Pour resin as a second layer.
After pouring the resin, I added motifs such as constellations and scattered holographic stars.
I sprinkled glitter around the flowers to give the impression of fireworks going off.
After the second layer of resin has hardened,
I drew the horse’s face and front legs to create a slightly more three-dimensional effect.
Painting pictures by layering resin is now a major technique,
but I think it was goldfish artist Riusuke Fukahori who first introduced it to the world.
(I think there are various theories about who was the first…)
I’m grateful to my predecessors.
I was surprised that even a layer of just a few millimeters looked three-dimensional.
Then, I layered a photo of the Colosseum on Big Ben and arranged flowers.
I don’t have a picture,
but I layered greenery on top and poured the third layer of resin and let it harden.
I removed it from the mold.
From here, I resized it to the size of a Rollbahn.
I attached the cover of the roll burn to the back and marked the cutting lines.
I liked this cover with the sea otter♡ That’s why I was late to make my original cover.
Cut it with a jigsaw.
It’s been a while since I used a jigsaw, and it reminded me of the fun of using jigsaws.
Since it is jagged, I filed it down to make it smooth and polished the cut parts.
Then, I used several types of files and finally abrasives to give it a transparent look.

The front looks like this.
Cappadocia, London, and famous spots in Italy are places I want to go and see.
I drew a horse trying to jump over an obstacle with the idea that even though there are many obstacles and drawbacks in life,
we can overcome them and fly to where we want to go.
I hid the ring on the left side of the cover for 2023,
but by the end of the year my planner will be more than as thick as two Rollbahn notebooks,
and the margins of the rings will be almost at their limit, so I’m leaving the rings on my planner for this year as they are.
There were some things to reflect on and some areas for improvement.
① The first layer of the background was too thick, so I was only able to put one layer of resin on the hand-drawn picture, and the three-dimensional effect was not very good.
② It was unfortunate that some of the resin soaked into the fruit and the flowers became wrinkled.
③ The shape of the horse’s hind legs was odd. I’m also a little disappointed that I couldn’t express the thickness of the face and ears well.
With this in mind, when I make my planner cover next year,
① First, I will make a thin, sheet-like background.
② I will covere the sides of the flowers and fruit with white paper to make them waterproof.
③ I will continue practicing drawing.
Afterwards, my art teacher gave me some advice on how to draw the horse better.
I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to meet such a great teacher and to have been blessed with an environment where I could continue drawing, albeit slowly.
I was able to learn and think about many things through the creation of my personal items.
